The Sea Inside

I’m heading to North Ronaldsay for the Sheep Festival and taking part in the exhibition The Sea Inside curated by Helga Scott at The Old Manse. I’ll be showing the series of Papa Westray seas and skies.

£250 each framed
Each image has been made in a limited edition of 3.
Printed on photorag with archival inks.
These images were made for the ØY Festival in Papay last winter in response to their theme of Island magnetism. The three have never been shown together before now.

These images, taken in Papay, are based on an idea that islands are defined by the sea and the sky rather than land. In the images separate photographs of seas and skies are butted against each other. The sea and the sky both occupy an equal space in the image. This work was made to echo the island experience where huge skies and vast seas meet in the middle and the land is dimished, vanished.

And while I’m there I’ll be giving a talk on Orkney photographers and photographers who have made work in Orkney, including Magnum photographers.
