Seaweed photography walk

Join me for a seaweed walk on the Birsay shore this Saturday 9 September. We will identify and photograph several seaweeds including the ones I like to eat. On Sunday morning we will photograph the seaweeds again using studio lights back in Stromness.

Free. To book call Stromness Museum (01856) 850025. Meet at Brough of Birsay car park Sunday at 3:30pm. Wear suitable clothes for clambering on slippy rocks.

This event is part of the Orkney International Science Festival and part of the Stromness Museum year long project, funded by The Royal Society, celebrating the Victorian polymath Rev Charles Clouston. Clouston was one of the founders of Stromness Museum – a meteorologist, antiquarian, geologist and a keen naturalist, he even had a seaweed named after him.

Clouston, a cloud spotter, has inspired the Stromness Museum cloud photography competition to be judged by the Cloud Appreciation Society. Details here.

Clouds and seaweed, what a man.
