Piers & clouds

I’ve been absorbed on a project for Stromness Museum about piers for the past few months. The exhibition is on at Stromness Museum until 31 Dec in the porch. There is a dedicated website here. It’s full of photographs, archive and contemporary, and audios telling the story of the piers.

Inside the museum there is an exhibition about Rev Charles Clouston, the first President of Stromness Museum and an early adopter of cloud spotting. ‘Mackerel Skies & Mare’s Tails’ is meteorological magic and I’m on cloud nine to have some of my series ‘Cloud Atlas’ in the show. There is even a copy of ‘The Cloud Atlas’ in the exhibition. The book is the origin of the phrase ‘on cloud nine’, the classification of number 9 assigned to the tallest of clouds, cumulonimbus.
