Mhari Law of Island Darkroom in Lewis has set up a Scottish Analogue Directory. Great to see Orkney represented with Tomas Hermoso and Sarah Wylie, there will be others coming in too such as Ingrid Budge. It’s great to have a space where all the analogue camera and darkroom artists can be brought together.
Here’s one of the images I submitted for the directory. It is a combination of processes – a darkroom print of nettles with a photogram of nettles made at the same time on the same sheet of photographic paper.
Another analogue site is the Australian online publication She Shoots Film, forefronting women photographers. I was happy to be in their shortlist late last year for their Open Call on the theme of Hope. I chose the image Grassroots to represent hope.
In other news…Mark Edmond’s book Orcadia is out in paperback on May 19th, it’s a great read. The hardback is a beautiful production from Head of Zeus and came out in 2019. Most of the photographs I made for that publication are digital made when walking with Mark but this little analogue calf from a few years back made it in too.
